MISys Manufacturing – Checking for Recursive BOMs

As per MISys, “a Recursive BOM is a bill of material that includes itself as a component”. If you try to add an assembled item as a component to its own Bill of Material, MISys will give an error, preventing you from creating a ‘Recursive BOM’.

However, when there are multiple BOM levels involved, it might be possible to create recursive BOMs in error. MISys offers a tool to check for these under the Housekeeping menu:

  • Navigate to Administration | Company Options | Housekeeping | Check for Recursive BOMs

  • Determine the range of BOMs and their corresponding revisions numbers to check (in alphabetical order). If you would like to check all BOMs, then leave the parameters with their default values (as shown in below screenshot)

  • Click ‘Proceed’

If there are no recursive BOMs, you will get a message letting you know that the ‘check is completed’. Otherwise, you will receive a list of BOMs and their revision numbers that violate the rule.

Please note that if you have a large number of BOMs and BOM layers, the check might take a long time. In such cases, it might be preferable to proceed with the check outside of regular business hours.

If you have any questions about “Recursive BOMs” feel free to contact Central Nervous Systems.
