MISys Manufacturing – Make or Buy...? Use MRP to Create Purchase Orders for Assembled Items.

When a subassembly can be either built internally or purchased from a supplier, MISys MRP provides a way for the materials planner to make that decision each time MRP is run.

To start, at least one qualified supplier needs to be added for the Make or Buy assembled item, as shown below.

The MRP default for replenishing assembled items is by Production Order (either Manufacturing Order or Work Order.). However, when a Purchase Order is required, click ‘Include Assembled Items with Suppliers’ while in the Process MRP – Buy screen, then any assembled items having a Qualified Supplier will appear (example assembly I41 below). A PO will then be created along with all the other purchased items in the list.  Whenever a subassembly appears that should be Made, simply delete it and that requirement will re-appear when running Make MRP for production orders.
