MISys Manufacturing – Production Shifts and Work Center Available Times.

With the Advanced Manufacturing module in MISys, Shop Operations can be set up in Bills of Material as Routing Operations. An operation takes place in a Work Center, and each Work Center has a Production Shift Schedule that establishes the available time for that Work Center.

Commonly, many Work Centers in a manufacturing organization operate on the same schedule, which is sometimes called the ‘Production Shift’, but there is no limit the number of Shift schedules that can be set up. The Production Shift, as setup in the MISys sample company (image below) has an available time of 8 hours per weekday, and 40 hours per week.

When running a Production Schedule, MISys compares the amount of time required in each Work Center per day to the available time. With this input, the planner/scheduler has several tools that provide visibility including various reports, such as the Work Center Load report that lists the amount of Work Center scheduled time -vs- available time. After identifying any gaps to be managed, the planner has many options available to balance the schedule including a change of production order dates, working overtime, or temporarily increasing Work Center capacity, etc.
