MISys Manufacturing – Updating Mass Data
It is not necessary to use the MISys user interfaces to update much of the data in MISys. For mass data updates, there is a much quicker way to do it...!
Like any Manufacturing software, MISys maintains data in tables. While the MISys table data resides in SQL tables, an excel Export/Import utility is available that can be used to quickly do mass updates using easy to modify excel files.
Here is how it works:
While in the Master Files, click File/Export.
An excel file is produced that contains the Item Master file data, and much of that data can be updated and imported back into MISys.
For example, any of the fields (aside from the Key field ‘itemID’) in the MIITEM export file shown below are quickly updatable with an import. Simply modify or add the data to the exported excel file that was created in the step above, then while in Master Files, click FIile/Import.
While there are some limitations by User Group and of what data fields can be imported, this is one simple example of the wide range of data that can be updated using the MISys Export/Import utility.
It’s a wise idea to try this out first in your test company or in MISampco to make sure you have the right field to update figured out. In addition, any time you update your data with an import it’s critical that you take a backup of MISys in case you do a Mass Import of the wrong data.
